Currency Converter
The currency converter helps you quickly calculate the value of one currency in another based on the exchange rate.
Example: 1,000 USD at a rate of 1 USD = 25,000 VND = 25,000,000 VND
Exchange rates represent the price of one currency expressed in another. Rates fluctuate continuously in the forex market, so this tool uses the rate you enter to calculate precisely according to your needs.
Currency conversion is essential when: traveling abroad, shopping internationally, receiving remittances, calculating salary in foreign currency, or investing in international stocks.
Currency conversion formulas
1. Direct conversion
Target amount = Source amount × Exchange rate
Example: 1,000 USD × 25,000 = 25,000,000 VND
2. Reverse rate (inverse rate)
Reverse rate = 1 / Exchange rate
Example: If 1 USD = 25,000 VND, then 1 VND = 25,000⁻¹ = 4.0000e-5 USD
3. Cross rate (triangular conversion)
When no direct rate is available, convert through an intermediary currency:
A → C = A → B × B → C
Example: Converting EUR to VND via USD:
- 1 EUR = 1.08 USD
- 1 USD = 25,000 VND
- → 1 EUR = 1.08 × 25,000 = 27.000 VND

Frequently asked questions
What is an exchange rate?
An exchange rate is the price of one currency expressed in another. For example, USD/VND = 25,000 means 1 USD = 25,000 VND. Exchange rates change daily based on forex market conditions.
Why are buy and sell rates different?
Banks and exchange counters always have a spread: the buy (bid) rate is lower than the sell (ask) rate. This spread is their profit. Example: buy USD at 24,800, sell at 25,200 → spread = 400 VND/USD.
What is a cross rate?
A cross rate is the exchange rate between two non-USD currencies, calculated through USD. For example: EUR/VND = EUR/USD × USD/VND = 1.08 × 25,000 = 27,000.
Where should I exchange money for the best rate?
Priority order: 1) ATM abroad (closest to market rate), 2) Online banking, 3) Airport exchange (worst rates). Avoid hotel exchanges due to high fees.
How much is the foreign transaction fee on credit cards?
Most credit cards charge a foreign transaction fee of 1-3% per transaction. Travel cards or cards with no foreign transaction fees are more cost-effective for international spending.
What is the difference between floating and fixed exchange rates?
Floating rate: determined by market supply and demand (USD, EUR, JPY...). Fixed rate: maintained by the government/central bank at a set level (VND is managed with a controlled band). Most major economies use floating rates.
